The eG Citrix Monitor extends the eG Enterprise monitoring technology to Citrix XenApp server farms. Monitoring of every layer of every tier of the Citrix infrastructure is essential for end-to-end visibility into the server farm. Using a 100% web-based architecture, the eG Citrix Monitor offers end-to-end monitoring of the network devices, servers, and applications involved in Citrix service delivery. Extensive, pre-defined, customized models are available for monitoring the different applications in the Citrix farm including Citrix XenApp Servers, Citrix Netscaler devices, Citrix Provisioning servers, Citrix License servers, Citrix web interface servers, SQL and other database servers, and infrastructure applications including Active Directory servers, Print servers, File servers and profile / personalization servers (such as AppSense and RES software applications). The eG Citrix Monitor can monitor earlier versions of Citrix XenApp including Citrix Presentation Servers, Citrix Metaframe XP and 1.8 servers. Agent-based and agentless monitoring is supported for most of these applications. The key monitoring capabilities of the eG Citrix Monitor are listed here >>>
Response time and other key service performance indicators are obtained from every tier of the infrastructure as well as end-to-end using the eG Client Emulation module.
Monitoring a Citrix XenApp server farm using the eG Citrix Monitor
In the eG Citrix Monitor, thresholds for key metrics are pre-defined based on industry standard best practices and are used to determine when any metric is abnormal. Auto-baselines are also determined for important time-varying metrics and any deviation from the norms is immediately flagged to administrators proactively.
The eG Citrix Monitor uses metrics from each of the infrastructure tiers to then prove where the root-cause of the problem lies - i.e., is it the network? database? Citrix XenApp? enterprise application (e.g., Exchange, SAP, Siebel, etc.)? profile server? Service topologies are used to represent the entire Citrix service delivery chain, with links between applications depicting the inter-dependencies between them. By analyzing the state of every layer of every tier of the infrastructure, and using a patented automatic root-cause analysis technology, the eG Citrix Monitor determines in real-time where the bottleneck lies - whether in the network, database, infrastructure servers, or Citrix XenApp servers. Administrators can thus use the eG Citrix Monitor's service monitoring capability to prove beyond doubt that "It's Not Citrix" that is the cause of all service performance problems.
From their web browsers, administrators also have access to personalized reports about the Citrix infrastructure. While executive reports offer high level overviews of performance that are ideal for C-level executives, operations reports offer detailed drilldowns that can be used for problem troubleshooting and diagnosis as well as for capacity planning .
