eG Innovations’ New SuperManager Solution Simplifies

| ISELIN, N.J.; Oct. 10, 2006 - eG Innovations, a global provider of business service monitoring and IT management triage solutions, today extended its “managing n-tiers without tears” strategy by unveiling the eG SuperManager, a manager-of-managers component of its eG Enterprise management suite. The new SuperManager greatly simplifies the monitoring of complex IT environments without increasing infrastructure overhead or complexity. The eG SuperManager provides a consolidated view of the status and performance of the IT infrastructure being managed by multiple eG managers. This makes monitoring the health of even the most complex, n-tier infrastructures as simple as managing a single domain. Customers no longer have to log-in to different eG management consoles to get an end-to-end, top-to-bottom view of the status of their entire IT environment -- regardless of number, type or physical location of their IT resources. “Our larger customers typically have thousands of devices, servers and applications running in geographically dispersed locations,” said Srinivas Ramanathan, President & CEO of eG Innovations. “Often, a common support team is responsible for first level support for all the domains. In the past, they needed to consult multiple eG domain managers to get a full enterprise-wide view. “Similarly, in a managed services environment, the service provider is responsible for supporting different customer infrastructures from a central location,” Ramanathan said. “Customers often prefer to have their own separate management consoles for administration. The eG SuperManager allows customers of service providers to continue to operate and administer their individual eG managers, while at the same time giving service providers a single, consolidated view of the status of IT resources managed by those individual eG managers, with no additional management overhead.” The eG SuperManager follows the company’s earlier announcements of the eG SMB Suite, version 3.2 of eG Enterprise Suite and the eG Redundant Manager, which collectively allow customers to streamline and strengthen the management of their increasingly complex IT environments. Configuration and Operation When configured, the eG SuperManager is provided details of the individual managers that are to report to it. The eG SuperManager polls the individual eG managers periodically at a pre-defined interval, collects status information from them, consolidates the information, and provides it to users. In keeping with the 100% web-based architecture of the eG Enterprise suite, all communications between the eG SuperManager and the individual managers takes place over secure HTTP/HTTPS connections. The eG SuperManager itself does not have a database. Instead, all the measurements are stored at the individual managers, not the SuperManager. This further negates impact on management overhead and cost of ownership. In a managed service provider (MSP) environment, where the SuperManager may be hosted in the MSP premises but the individual managers are at customer sites, this architecture provides data security by ensuring that measurement data regarding the customer networks is not stored at the MSP premises. Availability and Usage The eG SuperManager is available immediately for use in Solaris, Red Hat Linux, and Windows 2000/2003 operating system environments.
