eG Innovations Awarded Patent for its Infrastructure Management Software Technology
Virtual ManagerTM technology helps organizations achieve excellence in business service management
SINGAPORE, Jan. 9, 2006 - eG Innovations, a global provider of business service monitoring and triage solutions for IT infrastructures, today announced that it has been awarded a patent by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) for its Virtual ManagerTM technology, which is a core component of the eG Enterprise Suite. The company also has applied for a patent for the Virtual ManagerTM technology in the United States. eG Innovations has already been granted a patent for its automatic root-cause diagnosis and triage technology by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
With the eG Virtual Manager technology, business service managers and IT administrators, in different network domains, can securely access a single management console for end-to-end management of enterprise-wide business services as well as for management of IT resources (silos). Each user can get a personalized view of the services or silos for which they are responsible, generate performance reports and receive timely alerts relating to networks, servers, applications and services under their purview.
Without the Virtual Manager technology, multiple management consoles – one for each network domain – are needed. Furthermore, providing authorized users with end-to-end as well as silo views of services and IT resources is far more complicated, if not impossible.
“The Virtual Manager technology that is covered by this patent application is already widely used by our enterprise and service provider customers worldwide," said Srinivas Ramanathan, CEO of eG Innovations. “Organizations increasingly need to monitor their IT infrastructures from a service perspective. Often, a single business service spans many infrastructure tiers and includes different network, server and application technologies. The components of a service can extend across multiple geographies and different organizational domains, and are governed by strict security requirements. Monitoring across these boundaries, yet providing a single unified view, represents a key challenge.
“At the same time, the domain experts who are responsible for each of the tiers of an n-tier infrastructure are used to silo-specific tools. By providing both a service-specific view as well as a silo view specific to each expert, the Virtual Manager technology provides an elegant way for business managers and domain experts to ‘manage n-tier infrastructures without tears.’ This patent award is a testimony to the unique capabilities of the eG Enterprise Suite,” said Ramanathan.
With Virtual Manager technology, roles can be assigned to users in a granular manner, so help desk administrators, for example, can view just alerts but not drill down for more details. Meanwhile, domain experts can drill down to great depths to diagnose problems. An embedded knowledge base allows administrators and help desk personnel to share information about problems that have already been fixed.
“Since it allows hardware and software costs to be amortized across users and business services, the eG Virtual Manager allows for highly cost-effective deployments,” said Ramanathan. “Furthermore, the Virtual Manager works over secure web protocols, so the need to provision expensive virtual private networks (VPNs) just to monitor IT infrastructures in remote locations is no longer needed.”
