HPE StoreOnce FC Port Performance Test

HPE StoreOnce Catalyst provides source-side deduplication and thus reduces the network load during backup and copy processes. The network load reduction on the first backup of a server is lower than for subsequent backups. Starting with the second backup, the network load reduction will be measureable. For restore/read activities, the catalyst does not produce any bandwidth reduction, and data is sent rehydrated to the server. There are two options for connecting servers to a StoreOnce Catalyst store. StoreOnce Catalyst over Ethernet (CoE) and StoreOnce Catalyst over Fibre Channel (CoFC). Catalyst over Fibre Channel (CoFC) provides the same benefits as Catalyst over Ethernet (CoE) via a Fibre channel fabric. Catalyst Copy over Fibre Channel (CCoFC) utilizes Fibre Channel to transmit copies between StoreOnce Systems. CoFC and CCoFC are useful for customers that have invested in Fibre channel infrastructure and/or do not want to expand their Ethernet capacity.

By periodically measuring the I/O load on the ports, you can identify overloaded ports and thus proactively detect potential or existing load-balancing irregularities and/or processing bottlenecks with the appliance. The HPE StoreOnce FC Port Performance Test facilitates this port check. For every FC port configured on the appliance, this test reports the rate of data receipt and transmission. In the process, the test points administrators to overloaded ports, but this also puts a finger on ports that are slow when processing I/O requests.

Target of the test : HPE StoreOnce Backup 4.x

Agent deploying the test : A remote agent

Outputs of the test : One set of results for each Fibre channel port on the HPE StoreOnce Backup 4.x appliance being monitored.

Configurable parameters for the test
Parameters Description

Test Period

How often should the test be executed.

Host

The host for which the test is to be configured.

Port

The port at which the host is listening. By default, this is set to Null.

Username and Password

By default, the eG agent executes REST APIs on the target HPE StoreOnce Backup 4.x appliance to collect the required metrics. For the eG agent to execute the REST APIs, a special user with an Observer role is required. Specify the credentials of such a user in the Username and Password text boxes.

Confirm Password

Confirm the password by retyping it here.

Timeout Seconds

Specify the duration (in seconds) beyond which the test will timeout in this text box. The default value is 120 seconds.

Measurements made by the test
Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation

Received rate

Indicates the rate at which the data was received through this port.

MB/Sec

Compare the value of these measures across all FC ports to determine which port is handling the maximum data traffic.

Transmitted rate

Indicates the rate at which the data was transmitted through this port.

MB/Sec
