PVS Stream Processes Test

The Citrix Provisioning server streams vDisks containing image files to target devices using Stream Services. When Citrix PVS server streams vDisks to the target devices using Stream services, a performance counter will be registered and added as a part of StreamProcess to capture dynamic information about the provisioning server. The counters so added will reveal the statistics for the latest boot operation of the provisioning server. The PVS Stream Processes test monitors the target provisioning server and reveals the statistics reported by the performance counters. This test reports the count of login attempts and reconnects and the count of logins that were rejected due to unavailability of devices in the database server and unavailability of vDisks for the target devices. This way, administrators can easily find out why exactly the logins are failing during the streaming process.

Target of the test : Citrix Provisioning server

Agent deploying the test : An internal agent

Outputs of the test : One set of results for the Citrix Provisioning server being monitored

Configurable parameters for the test
Parameter Description

Test Period

How often should the test be executed.

The host for which the test is to be configured.

Refers to the port used by the Citrix Provisioning server. By default, this is 54321.

Measurements made by the test
Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation

Device not found

Indicates the number of logins that were rejected due to the non-availability of the target devices in the database.

Server busy

Indicates the number of target device logins that were paused because the maximum number of devices that a server allows to boot is reached.

Server not available for vDisk

Indicates the number of target device logins that were rejected because no servers were available for the virtual disk.

vDisk not available

Indicates the number of logins that were rejected because the virtual disk was not available for the target device.

Target login attempts

Indicates the number of times that a target device attempted to login to the server.

Target reconnect

Indicates the number of times that the target device was reconnected to other PVS servers in the PVS farm since vDisk started streaming to the target device.

A low value is preferred for this measure.

The target devices reconnect to another server in the PVS farm when the Provisioning server that streams vDisk to the devices sends a message before the stream service shuts down. The target server then uses the list of login servers and reconnects to another server.
