EMC Centera Pools Test
Storage pool in EMC Centera pools is a way to pool the nodes together to provide adequate storage and organize storage resources based on business requirements. Administrators can create physical separation of data by partitioning the storage into multiple different storage pools.
The test doesn't auto-discover pools, administrator needs to add pools manually to eG Enterprise to monitor the pools and report storage related measures.
For any business software application, all data that it would use will be available in a given pool, so for users point of view it would be very important to monitor the health of a storage pool to identify if adequate nodes and disks are available to support read and write at an acceptable rate.
The purpose of the test is to identify the health of nodes, the health of disks, and capacity available on the pool, the insights from the analysis of metrics can help administrators to plan maintenance of the pool if required and adding/removing capacity as guided by business requirement.
Target of the test : An EMC Centera storage system.
Agent deploying the test : A remote agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results for each pool in EMC Centera pools
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Test period |
How often should the test be executed. |
Host |
The host for which the test is to be configured. |
Port |
The port number at which the specified host listens. By default, this is NULL. |
User and Password |
In order to monitor an EMC Centera Storage, the eG agent has to be configured with the credentials of a read only user. Specify the login credentials of such a user in the User and Password text boxes. |
Confirm Password |
Confirm the password by retyping it here. |
CerteraViewer JAR Path |
Path of CenteraViewer on agent host. CenteraViewer is installed along with CenteraCLI. By default the installation path is C:\Program Files\EMC\Centera\2_4\SystemOperator\lib\CenteraViewer.jar |
Timeout Seconds |
Specify the time duration (in seconds) beyond which this test should time out in the TIMEOUT text box. The default is 120 seconds. |
Measurement | Description | Measurement Unit | Interpretation |
---|---|---|---|
Alert quota |
Quota of storage when full, system will start giving alerts. |
TB |
The administrators can keep an eye on total used capacity against the alert quota and hard stop quota. With these insights you can plan storage needs and available capacity.
|
Hard stop quota |
Once hard stop quota is full, system will stop accepting any new data writes. |
TB |
|
Used |
Total amount of used capacity in the pool. |
TB |
|
C-Clips |
Total number of C-Clip descriptor files stored in the pool. |
Number |
|
Files |
Total number of data files stored in the pool. |
