HPE StoreOnce Catalyst Services Test

HPE StoreOnce Catalyst is a StoreOnce function that allows StoreOnce-supported backup applications to:

Back up data to a target store on the StoreOnce System. Deduplication may occur on the media server, backup/database server, or StoreOnce System to ensure efficient use of the available bandwidth.

Copy jobs between StoreOnce Systems. Configuration occurs within the StoreOnce-supported backup application, making StoreOnce Catalyst an attractive alternative to using the replication function on the StoreOnce System. Copy jobs are initiated from the StoreOnce-supported application and have none of the complexities of replication mapping.

The catalyst offers the following benefits:

  • The StoreOnce-supported backup application is in full control of data for the full life cycle of the backup data.

  • The StoreOnce-supported backup application has full visibility of all items and jobs on the StoreOnce System.

  • Deduplication can occur on either the media server or StoreOnce System which ensures efficient use of the available bandwidth.

  • There is no enforced limit on the number of StoreOnce Catalyst items within a store.

  • Copy jobs are initiated from the StoreOnce-supported application and have none of the complexities of replication mapping.

  • If StoreOnce Catalyst device types are used, space reclamation is more automated and easier to implement from within the StoreOnce-supported backup application.

The StoreOnce Catalyst functionality is optimized by the best-practice configuration and verification services offered by the HPE StoreOnce Catalyst Solution. To ensure the best data protection and peak performance of the target backup system, administrators should be able to detect issues in the StoreOnce Catalyst much before users complain. The HPE StoreOnce Catalyst Services test helps administrators in this regard! This test reports the current status and health of the StoreOnce Catalyst service, thus proactively alerting administrators to service degradation. In addition, this test also reports the cloud disk space usage statistics of the Catalyst store, thereby enabling administrators to be forewarned about any disk space crunch before backup and restore operations are adversely affected. This test also reports the number of job sessions on the appliance, which helps administrators manage the load on the appliance and hence proactively optimize resource usage.

How often should the test be executed.

Host

The host for which the test is to be configured.

Port

The port at which the host is listening. By default, this is set to Null.

Username and Password

By default, the eG agent executes REST APIs on the target HPE StoreOnce Backup 4.x appliance to collect the required metrics. For the eG agent to execute the REST APIs, a special user with an Observer role is required. Specify the credentials of such a user in the Username and Password text boxes.

Timeout Seconds

Specify the duration (in seconds) beyond which the test will timeout in this text box. The default value is 120 seconds.

Indicates the number of active inbound copy job sessions running on the appliance.

If the number of copy jobs gets high then you must optimize the queuing and running of jobs based on the resources available.

Indicates the number of active outbound copy job sessions running on the appliance.

The data transfer between the StoreOnce System and a media server or application server is termed as a data job.

If the number of data jobs starts getting high, the StoreOnce System can be loaded heavily. Then the jobs fail to start or run slowly due to insufficient resources being available.
