Storage Volumes Test
This test auto discovers each storage volume of the storage pools available in the KVM server and reports the type of each storage volume and how well each volume utilizes the space allocated to it. This way, administrators are proactively alerted to potential space crunches in the storage volumes.
Target of the test : A KVM server
Agent deploying the test : An internal agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results for the KVM server that is to be monitored.
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Test Period |
How often should the test be executed. |
Host |
The IP address of the host for which this test is to be configured. |
Measurement | Description | Measurement Unit | Interpretation | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Volume type |
Indicates the type of this storage volume. |
|
The storage volume can either be Block based or File based. The numeric values that correspond to each of the volume types discussed above are listed in the table below:
Note: By default, this measure reports one of the Types listed in the table above. The graph of this measure however, represents the type of this storage volume using the numeric equivalents - ‘0’ to ‘1’. |
||||||
Volume capacity |
Indicates the total capacity of this storage volume. |
MB |
|
||||||
Space used in volume |
Indicates the amount of space that is already utilized in this storage volume. |
MB |
Ideally, the value of this measure should be low. |
||||||
Free space in volume |
Indicates the amount of space that is currently available for use in this storage volume. |
MB |
A high value is desired for this measure. |
||||||
Percent usage of space in volume |
Indicates the percentage of space that is utilized by this storage volume. |
Percent |
A very high value for this measure indicates a space crunch in the storage volume. If adequate resources are not made available soon, then this could significantly degrade the performance of the virtual machines that share the resources from the storage volumes that are in short of adequate resources. |
