Prism Overview Test

To ascertain the needs of the infrastructure and to determine whether/not additional resources need to be added to the prism to handle their current and anticipated load, Nutanix administrators should keep track on the available resources on the prism. This visibility is provided through the Prism Overview test. This test reports the count of clusters, storage pools, VMs, containers, hosts and controller VMs available in the prism. In the process, this test also pinpoints those VMs that are currently powered on and powered off.

Configurable parameters for the test
  1. Test period - How often should the test be executed
  2. Host - The host for which the test is to be configured.
  3. port - The port at which the specified host listens. By default, this is NULL.
  4. nutanix Prism user and nutanix prism password -To connect to the Nutanix Prism and collect metrics from it, the eG agent should be configured with the credentials of a Cluster administrator or a User administrator. Specify the name and password of this user in the and Nutanix Prism User and Nutanix Prism Password text boxes, respectively. However, some high security Nutanix environments may prefer not to expose the credentials of a Cluster administrator or a User administrator. In such environments, the eG agent can be configured with the credentials of a Prism user with the Viewer role.   5. confirm password - Confirm the nutanix prism password by retyping it here.
  6. ssl - By default, the Nutanix Prism server is SSL-enabled. Accordingly, the SSL flag is set to Yes by default. This indicates that the eG agent will communicate with the Prism server via HTTPS by default.

  7. webport - By default, the Nutanix Prism server listens on port 9440. This implies that to monitor a Nutanix Prism server, the eG agent connects to the server via port 9440.

  8. DD FREQUENCY - Refers to the frequency with which detailed diagnosis measures are to be generated for this test. For a Nutanix Acropolis Prism server, this is set to 1:1 by default. This indicates that, by default, detailed measures will be generated every time this test runs, and also every time the test detects a problem. It is recommended that you do not change the default setting of this parameter.

  9. DETAILED DIAGNOSIS - To make diagnosis more efficient and accurate, the eG suite embeds an optional detailed diagnostic capability. With this capability, the eG agents can be configured to run detailed, more elaborate tests as and when specific problems are detected. To enable the detailed diagnosis capability of this test for a particular server, choose the On option. To disable the capability, click on the Off option.

    The option to selectively enable/disable the detailed diagnosis capability will be available only if the following conditions are fulfilled:

    • The eG manager license should allow the detailed diagnosis capability
    • Both the normal and abnormal frequencies configured for the detailed diagnosis measures should not be 0.

Powered on VMs

Indicates the number of VMs in the prism that are currently powered on.

Number

The detailed diagnosis of this measure lists the name, IP address, and operating system of the VMs that are currently powered on, and which host each VM runs on.

Powered off VMs

Indicates the number of VMs in the prism that are currently powered off.

Number

Controller VMs

Indicates the number of controller VMs available in the prism.
