Oracle ZFS Pool Capacity Test
ZFS groups underlying storage devices into pools and file systems, and LUNs allocate from this storage as needed. Storage is configured in pools that are characterized by their underlying data redundancy and provide space that is shared across all file systems and LUNs. Each node can have any number of pools, and each pool can be assigned ownership independently in a cluster.
This test monitors the pools in the target storage system and for each pool, this test reports its status, used space, free space, and total space. This helps the administrator to analyze the requirement of space by either adding more space to the pool or by deleting unnecessary data from the pool.
Target of the test : Oracle ZFS Storage System
Agent deploying the test : A remote agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results for each controller:storage pool in the Oracle ZFS Storage System being monitored.
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Test period |
How often should the test be executed. |
Host |
The IP address of the target system that is being monitored. |
Port |
The port number through which Oracle ZFS Storage System communicates. The default port is 215. |
User, Password and Confirm Password |
By default, this test uses the REST API commands to pull out the required metrics. To execute the REST API commands, the eG agent requires the permission of a local administrator user who has been assigned with Basic role and a custom role with Analytics authorization and read permission. Specify the credentials of such a user in the USERNAME and PASSWORD text boxes and confirm the Password by retyping it in the CONFIRM PASSWORD text box. To create a new user with the required permissions, refer Creating a new user on Oracle ZFS Storage System. |
Timeout |
Specify the time duration for which this test should wait for a response from the storage system in the TIMEOUT text box. By default, this is 60 seconds. |
Measurement | Description | Measurement Unit | Interpretation | ||||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Pool status |
Indicates the status of the storage pool. |
|
The values reported by this measure and its numeric equivalents are mentioned in the table below:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the status of the storage pool. |
||||||||||||||||
Used space |
Indicates the space used by this pool including data and snapshots. |
GB |
Ideally, the value of this measure should be low. If this value grows close to that of the Total Space measure, then you may consider adding more storage to the pool, or free up the space in the pool by deleting unnecessary data. |
||||||||||||||||
Free space |
Indicates the amount of physical disk space available. |
GB |
|
||||||||||||||||
Total space |
Indicates the total space provided to this pool. |
GB |
|
||||||||||||||||
Space used |
Indicates the space usage in percentage. |
Percent |
A value close to 100% indicates that the pool is currently running out of space. |
||||||||||||||||
Space free |
Indicates the percentage of physical disk space |
