The TCP Layer

As indicated earlier, a generic application relies on either the TCP or UDP protocols for data transport. While many applications such as web server, web application servers, and database servers rely on the TCP protocol, some other applications such as DNS servers and WAP gateways rely on the UDP protocol. To track the health of the TCP layer of a host, and its effect on the status of any application server, the eG Enterprise uses a TCP test shown in Figure 1.
