HP 3PAR Storage Array Capacity Test
Adequate space should be available in the storage arrays to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the mission-critical applications that are using the storage services provided by the storage arrays. If a storage array is about to run out of space, then, administrators should be intimated of the space crunch well in advance so that, storage space in the storage array can be enhanced before service levels start taking a turn for the worse! This test periodically checks the space usage in each storage array on the target storage system and proactively alerts administrators to potential storage space contentions so that, amends are made before application performance deteriorates.
Target of the test : A HP 3PAR Storage system
Agent deploying the test : A remote agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results for each storage array on the storage system being monitored.
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Test Period |
How often should the test be executed. |
Host |
The IP address of the Storage system. |
Port |
The port number at which the Storage system listens. The default is NULL. |
User and Password |
By default, this test executes SSH commands on the target storage system to collect the required metrics. Specify the credentials of a user who has the right to execute SSH commands on the storage device and pull out metrics. To monitor the HP 3PAR Storage system, you will have to provide the credential of a user who has been assigned the Browse role. To know how to create a user with Browser role, refer to How to Create a New User with Browser Role? |
Confirm Password |
Confirm the password by retyping it here. |
SSH Port |
The Secured Shell (SSH) port number at which the Storage system listens. The default is 22. |
Jar |
By default, this test uses the wbem.jar for metrics collection. This is why, the wbem option is selected by default. If you want the test to use the sblimCIMClient.jar for collecting metrics, choose the sblim option here. |
Measurement | Description | Measurement Unit | Interpretation |
---|---|---|---|
Total capacity |
Indicates the total storage space available in the storage array. |
TB |
|
Allocated capacity |
Indicates the amount of storage space that is allocated to from the storage array. |
TB |
If the value of this measure grows closer to the value of the Total capacity measure, then administrators may want to consider adding more storage to the storage array, or freeing space in the storage array by deleting unnecessary data. |
Allocated capacity percentage |
Indicates the percentage of storage space that is allocated to from the storage array. |
Percent |
|
Free capacity |
Indicates the amount of storage space that is available for use on the storage array. |
TB |
A high value is desired for this measure. A very low value for this measure indicates a shortage of storage space on the storage array. |
