How Does eG Enterprise Monitor IBM Cognos Business Intelligence?

eG Enterprise can monitor IBM Cognos Business Intelligence in an agent-based or an agentless manner. However, the recommended monitoring approach is agent-based only. In case of the agentless approach, the remote agent used to monitor the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence server should be deployed on a remote Windows host in the environment.

The eG agent, deployed either on the application server host or on a remote Windows host in the environment (depending upon the monitoring approach – whether agent-based or agentless), can be configured to connect to the application and pull out metrics of interest, using JMX. To make sure that the tests mapped to the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence report metrics, you need to enable JMX for the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence server to be monitored. By default, JMX requires no authentication or security (SSL). In this case therefore, to use JMX for pulling out metrics from IBM Cognos Business Intelligence, a set of pre-requisites should be fulfilled. These requirements have been discussed in the Pre-requisites for Monitoring IBM Cognos Business Intelligence.
