Arista Fan Status Test

This test monitors the fans in the target Arista Switch and reports the status of the fans, temperature and the status of air flow in the fans. Using this test, administrators can keep a check on the fans that are currently malfunctioning.

Target of the test : Arista Switch

Agent deploying the test : An external agent

Outputs of the test : One set of results for the each fan on the target Arista Switch

Configurable parameters for the test
Parameter Description

Test period

How often should the test be executed

Host

The IP address of the Arista Switch that is being monitored.

SSH Port

Besides SNMP, this test also uses the Arista Switch CLI to pull metrics. To run the CLI commands, the test first needs to establish an SSH connection with the Arista Switch. To enable the test to establish this connection, specify the SSH Port here.

SSH Username, SSH Password, and Confirm Password

As stated earlier, this test also uses the Arista Switch CLI to pull metrics. To use the CLI, the test first needs to connect to the Arista Switch via SSH, and then run commands using CLI. For running the commands, this test requires the privileges of a valid SSH user with permission to run the CLI commands. Specify the user name and password of such a user against SSH UserName and SSH Password text boxes, and confirm the password by retyping it in the Confirm Password text box.

Timeout

Specify the duration (in seconds) within which the SNMP query executed by this test should time out in this text box. The default is 10 seconds.

Measurements made by the test
Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation

Status

Indicates the current status the fans.

The values that this measure can report and their corresponding numeric values are as follows:

Measure Value

Numeric Value
Ok 0
Insufficient fans 1

Note:

By default, this measure reports one of the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the current status of this fan. The graph of this measure however, is represented using the corresponding numeric equivalents only.

Temperature

Indicates the ambient temperature the fans.

Celsius

The temperature of the fans should be within admissible range. A sudden increase in the temperature of the fans indicate that the fans are malfunctioning.

Airflow

Indicates the status of air flow in the fans.

The values that this measure can report and their corresponding numeric values are as follows:

Measure Value

Numeric Value
Unknown 0
Port-side intake 1
Port-side exhaust 2
Incompatible fans 3

Note:

By default, this measure reports one of the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the status of air flow in the fans. In the graph of this measure however, the same is represented using the corresponding numeric equivalents only.
