Citrix License Optimizations Test
In Citrix environments where thousands of users log in, if a few users are no longer associated with that infrastructure or are an extended period of leave, the licenses assigned to those users will remain unused. Similarly, if the devices used by the users are out of service, then, the licenses allotted to such users using that device too will also remain unused. If the licenses are not released periodically from such users, then, there may arise a shortage of licenses to genuine users who log into the citrix environment on a regular basis. To optimize the license allocation to the users, it is essential to first isolate users who have not logged into the infrastructure in the recent past and release the licenses held by such users and devices. For this purpose, administrators can use the Citrix License Optimizations test.
This test auto-discovers the license types used in the target Citrix environment and for each license type, reports the number of users who have not logged in. This test also reports the count of devices that were not used by the users to log in during the recent past. The detailed diagnostics of this test helps administrators figure out the exact name of the users who have not logged in recently and the name of the devices that have not been used by the users for log in during the recent past.
Target of the test : A Citrix License Server
Agent deploying the test : An internal agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results is reported for every Citrix license type being managed by the monitored Citrix License server.
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Test Period |
How often should the test be executed. Since the Citrix Licenses test is a resource-intensive test, it is recommended that you run the test less frequently. Accordingly, the Test Period for this test has been, by default, set to 10 minutes. |
Host |
The host for which the test is to be configured. |
Port |
Refers to the port used by the Citrix License server. |
CitrixHome |
Provide the full path to the install directory of the Citrix License server being monitored. By default, 'none' will be displayed here. In such a case, eG will auto-discover the install directory. Alternatively, you can explicitly specify the exact location of the install directory here. For example, c:\progra~1\CitrixLicense. |
Users Not Logged in Days |
By default, this parameter is set to 90 indicating that the test will retrieve the list of citrix users (possessing a valid license of each license type) who have not logged in the past 90 days. |
Devices Not Logged in Days |
By default, this parameter is set to 90 indicating that the test will retrieve the list of devices that have not been used by the citrix users (possessing a valid license of each license type)for logging into the Citrix environment in the past 90 days. |
DD Frequency |
Refers to the frequency with which detailed diagnosis measures are to be generated for this test. The default is 1:1. This indicates that, by default, detailed measures will be generated every time this test runs, and also every time the test detects a problem. You can modify this frequency, if you so desire. Also, if you intend to disable the detailed diagnosis capability for this test, you can do so by specifying none against DD frequency. |
Detailed Diagnosis |
To make diagnosis more efficient and accurate, the eG Enterprise embeds an optional detailed diagnostic capability. With this capability, the eG agents can be configured to run detailed, more elaborate tests as and when specific problems are detected. To enable the detailed diagnosis capability of this test for a particular server, choose the On option. To disable the capability, click on the Off option. The option to selectively enable/disable the detailed diagnosis capability will be available only if the following conditions are fulfilled:
|
Measurement | Description | Measurement Unit | Interpretation |
---|---|---|---|
Users who have not logged in recently |
Indicates the number of users (possessing this license type) who have not logged in beyond the days configured against the Users Not Logged in Days parameter. |
Number |
Use the detailed diagnosis of this measure to figure out the name of the users, the licenses used by the users and the lat login date/time of the users who have not logged in recently. |
Devices not used recently for user logins |
Indicates the number of devices that have not been used for login by the users (possessing this license type) beyond the days configured against the Devices Not Logged in Days parameter. |
Number |
Use the detailed diagnosis of this measure to figure out the devices that are used by the users, the licenses used by the users and the last login date/time of the users. |
