Frame Desktops Test
A frame desktop generally refers to a structured or predefined desktop environment that may be built using a framework, accessed via the web, or provided in virtualized environments. The quality of the user experience in frame desktop environments depends on factors like responsiveness, application launch times, and overall stability. Continuous monitoring helps in identifying and resolving issues that may degrade user experience, such as application crashes, slow response times, or connectivity problems. This is how the Frame Desktops Test helps the administrators.
This test monitors the Dizzion frame desktops and reports the number of VMs that were logged in with/without users. Administrators can drill-down to find out which virtual desktops are powered on without users, thus enabling effective resource allocation.
Target of the test : A Dizzion Frame desktop on the cloud
Agent deploying the test : A remote agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results for the 'Dizzion Frame Desktops' component being monitored
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Test Period |
How often should the test be executed. |
Host |
The nick name of the Dizzion Frame Desktops component for which this test is to be configured. |
Port |
Refers to the port at which the specified host listens to. By default, this is NULL. |
Inside View Using |
To obtain the 'inside view' of performance of the cloud-hosted Dizzion Frame desktops - i.e., to measure the internal performance of the Dizzion Frame virtual desktops - this test uses a light-weight eG VM Agent software deployed on each of the desktops. Accordingly, this parameter is by default set to eG VM Agent (Windows). |
Report Powered OS |
This flag is relevant only for those tests that are mapped to the Inside View of Desktops layer. If this flag is set to Yes (which is the default setting), then the 'inside view' tests will report measures for even those Dizzion Frame desktops that do not have any users logged in currently. Such desktops will be identified by their name and not by the username_on_virtualdesktopname. On the other hand, if this flag is set to No, then this test will not report measures for those Dizzion Frame desktops to which no users are logged in currently. |
Is Cloud VMs |
Since this test runs for a 'Dizzion Frame Desktops' component, this flag is set to Yes by default. |
Report By User |
This flag is set to Yes by default. The value of this flag cannot be changed. This implies that the virtual machines in VDI environments will always be identified using the login name of the user. In other words, in VDI environments, this test will, by default, report measures for every username_on_virtualmachinename. |
DD Frequency |
Refers to the frequency with which detailed diagnosis measures are to be generated for this test. For instance, if you set to 1:1, it means that detailed measures will be generated every time this test runs, and also every time the test detects a problem. |
Detailed Diagnosis |
To make diagnosis more efficient and accurate, the eG suite embeds an optional detailed diagnostic capability. With this capability, the eG agents can be configured to run detailed, more elaborate tests as and when specific problems are detected. To enable the detailed diagnosis capability of this test for a particular server, choose the On option. To disable the capability, click on the Off option. The option to selectively enable/disable the detailed diagnosis capability will be available only if the following conditions are fulfilled:

Interpretation |
---|---|---|---|
Total VMs reported in the last one hour |
Indicates the total number of VMs that have been powered on during the last one hour. |
Number |
|
Currently powered on VMs |
Indicates the number of VMs that are currently powered on. |
Number |
|
VMs with users |
Indicates the number of powered on virtual desktops with users logged in. |

The detailed diagnosis of this measure if enabled, provides the details of each desktop with a user – these details include, the desktop ID, name of the desktop, the user who is logged into the desktop, IP address, the OSF associated with the desktop, the DI tag of the desktop, the disk image using which the desktop was created and the connection status of the desktop. |
VMs without users |
Indicates the number of powered on virtual desktops without any users logged in. |
Number |
The detailed diagnosis of this measure if enabled, provides the details of desktops to which no user is currently logged in – such details include, the desktop ID, name of the desktop, the user who is registered with the desktop during desktop creation, IP address, the OSF associated with the desktop, the DI tag of the desktop, the disk image using which the desktop was created and the connection status of the desktop. |
