Monitoring ExaGrid Backup Server

eG Enterprise offers an exclusive ExaGrid Backup monitoring model (see Figure 1), which keeps tabs on the backup and restore operations performed by the server, and reports deviations much before they impact the performance of the server as a whole, or the dependent service.

The metrics reported by the tests associated with the above-layers will accurately answer the following queries:

  • What is the rate at which data was read from the retention repository disk?
  • What is the rate at which data was written to the disk landing zone?
  • What is the rate at which data was deduplicated in the retention repository disk?
  • What is the total capacity of the retention repository disk?
  • How much of space is available for use in the retention repository disk?
  • What is the percentage of space that is utilized by the retention repository disk?
  • What is the total capacity of the disk landing zone?
  • What is the amount of space that is available for use in the disk landing zone?
  • What is the percentage of space that is utilized by the disk landing zone?
  • What is the amount of data that can be restored by the target server?
  • What is the amount of data that is yet to be deduplicated?

Since the Operating System layer has been discussed elaborately in the Monitoring Windows and Unix Servers document and the Network layer has been discussed in the Monitoring Cisco Routers document, the Backup Services layer alone will be discussed in detail in the following section.
