Monitoring F5 VELOS/rSeries Appliance
eG Enterprise provides a specialized F5 VELOS/rSeries Appliance model.
Figure 1 : Layer model for F5 VELOS/rSeries Appliance
Each layer in Figure 1 is mapped to tests that report metrics related to the F5 VELOS/rSeries Appliance. Using the metrics reported by this test, administrators can find accurate answers for the following performance queries:
-
Is any fan running at an abnormal speed?
-
Is any CPU core being over-utilized? If so, which are those CPU cores?
-
Are there any sudden spikes noticed in the average utilization of the CPU usage during the last 5 minutes, 1 minute and 5 seconds? If so, which CPU cores were prone to sudden utilization spikes?
-
Is the CPU utilization of the target appliance abnormally high? Is the average CPU utilized by the target appliance abnormal during the past 5 minutes, 1 minute and 5 seconds?
-
Is any disk encountering abnormal read and write IOPS? If yes, which are those disks?
-
Is any disk encountering abnormal read/write latencies? If yes, which are those disks?
-
Is there any memory resource contention on the target appliance?
-
Is the temperature of the appliance well within admissible range? Is there any temperature fluctuation in the last hour?
Since the Network layer have already been dealt with in the Monitoring Windows and Unix Servers document, this chapter will discuss the other layers only.
