Document Operations Test
Google Docs is a cloud-based word processing tool that enables online document creation, editing, and collaboration. As part of Google Workspace, it integrates smoothly with other Google apps like Google Drive, Sheets, and Slides. It is widely used by individuals, businesses, students, educators, and professionals for creating, editing, and sharing documents online. However, when creating, updating, downloading, uploading, or deleting documents on Google Docs take too long or fail, it disrupts workflow and degrades productivity. If files cannot be uploaded or deleted, it can cause storage issues, which inturn lead to clutter and limited space. Additionally, frequent failures can cause frustration and force users to look around for alternative solutions, impacting efficiency. Therefore, it is very imperative to track down any failures or slowness before it affects the productivity and user experience.
This test monitors the document processing from creation to deletion and reports any failures or slowness in the process. Using these measures, administrators can ascertain any setbacks faced by Google Docs and proactively remediate the issues before it affects the user experience.
Target of the test : Google Workspace
Agent deploying the test : An external agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results for the Google Workspace monitored.
| Parameters | Description |
|---|---|
Test Period |
How often should the test be executed. |
Host |
The host for which the test is to be configured. |
Proxy Host, Proxy Port |
In some environments, all communication with the Google Workspace be routed through a proxy server. In such environments, you should make sure that the eG agent connects to the cloud via the proxy server and collects metrics. To enable metrics collection via a proxy, specify the IP address of the proxy server and the port at which the server listens against the Proxy Host and Proxy Port parameters. By default, these parameters are set to none, indicating that the eG agent is not configured to communicate via a proxy, by default. |
Proxy Username, Proxy Password and Confirm Password |
If the proxy server requires authentication, then, specify a valid proxy user name and password in the Proxy Username and Proxy Password parameters, respectively. Then, confirm the password by retyping it in the Confirm Password text box. |
Share To User |
Specify the email ID of a Google Workspace user who have access to the test operations created during monitoring. This can be the email ID of the simulation user or admin. By default, this parameter is set to none. Providing the email ID helps the specified user view and verify synthetic monitoring activities. |
Enable Debug |
If this flag is set to Yes, the eG agent will run in debug mode, enabling error logging. By default, this flag is set to No. |
DD Frequency |
Refers to the frequency with which detailed diagnosis measures are to be generated for this test. The default is 1:1. This indicates that, by default, detailed measures will be generated every time this test runs, and also every time the test detects a problem. You can modify this frequency, if you so desire. Also, if you intend to disable the detailed diagnosis capability for this test, you can do so by specifying none against DD frequency. |

Measurement |
Description |
Measurement Unit |
Interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Document creation status |
Indicates whether/not the document was succesfully created in Google Docs. |
If this measure reports the value Success, it means that the document was successfully created. On the other hand, if this measure reports the value Failed, it implies that the document creation failed. The numeric values that correspond to these measure values are as follows:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the document creation status. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only. The document creation failures can be due to internet problems, account restrictions, storage constrainsts, and service outages. |
Document creation time |
Indicates the time taken to create the document in Google Docs. |
Seconds |
A low value is desired for this measure. If the value of this measure is high, then it can be due to slow internet, service delays, browser issues, CPU overload or other device issues, etc. |
Document updation status |
Indicates whether/not the document was succesfully updated in Google Docs. |
If this measure reports the value Success, it means that the document was successfully updated. On the other hand, if this measure reports the value Failed, it implies that the document updation failed. The numeric values that correspond to these measure values are as follows:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the document updation status. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only. If a user cannot update the document it leads to data loss, delayed work, collaboration issues, etc. This can be due to slow internet connection, Google Drive sync issue, service outage, insufficient storage, etc. |
Document updation time |
Indicates the time taken to update document in Google Docs. |
Seconds |
The delay in document updation can be due to slow internet, Google server response time, excessive simulatneour edits, and large document size. |
Document download status |
Indicates whether/not the document was succesfully downloaded in Google Docs. |
If this measure reports the value Success, it means that the document was successfully downloaded. On the other hand, if this measure reports the value Failed, it implies that the document download failed. The numeric values that correspond to these measure values are as follows:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the document download status. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only. Document download failures can be due to slow internet, drive sync errors, browser cache problems, and issues in file format. |
Document download time |
Indicates the time taken to download the document in Google Docs. |
Seconds |
If the value of this measure is high, then that means document downloading is taking too long. This could be due to slow internet, browser issues, server slowdowns, and large file sizes. |
Document upload status |
Indicates whether/not the document was succesfully uploaded to Google Docs. |
If this measure reports the value Success, it means that the document was successfully uploaded. On the other hand, if this measure reports the value Failed, it implies that the document upload failed. The numeric values that correspond to these measure values are as follows:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the document upload status. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only. |
Document upload time |
Indicates the time taken to upload the document to Google Docs. |
Seconds |
If the value of this measure is high, the its a cause for concern. It may lead to data loss, delay collaborations, and disrupt workflow. |
Document deletion status |
Indicates whether/not the document was succesfully deleted from Google Docs. |
If this measure reports the value Success, it means that the document was successfully deleted. On the other hand, if this measure reports the value Failed, it implies that the document deletion failed. The numeric values that correspond to these measure values are as follows:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the document deletion status. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only. |
Document deletion time |
Indicates the time taken to delete the document from Google Docs. |
Seconds |
If the value of this measure is high, then it can be due to slow internet, server lag. drive sync issues, and browser problems. If it takes too long to delete a document, that can lead to increased storage issues, security and privacy concerns, etc. |
