Drive Folder Operations Test
Google Drive is a cloud-based storage service that enables users to store, access, and share files online. It is part of Google Workspace and works with other Google apps like Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail. Users can store different types of files, including documents, images, videos, and PDFs, and access them from any device that has an internet connection. Google Drive also offers features such as real-time collaboration, file versioning, and secure sharing, making it an effective tool for individuals, businesses, and teams. When Google Drive folder creation, search, or deletion fails or takes too long, it causes delay in file access and organization. This can inturn disrupts workflow and decreases productivity. Users might find it difficult to locate or manage important documents, resulting in inefficiencies and frustration. Collaboration can be affected if team members are unable to quickly find or remove shared folders, creating confusion and delays in project execution. Furthermore, storage management issues may occur if folders cannot be deleted, leading to disorganization and limited space availability.
This test monitors the folder creation, search and deletion processes in Google drive and reports the status and time taken for the same. These measures help you to promptly detect and eliminate any failures or slowdowns before they impact the user experience.
Target of the test : Google Workspace
Agent deploying the test : An external agent
Outputs of the test : One set of results for the Google Workspace monitored.
| Parameters | Description |
|---|---|
Test Period |
How often should the test be executed. |
Host |
The host for which the test is to be configured. |
Proxy Host, Proxy Port |
In some environments, all communication with the Google Workspace be routed through a proxy server. In such environments, you should make sure that the eG agent connects to the cloud via the proxy server and collects metrics. To enable metrics collection via a proxy, specify the IP address of the proxy server and the port at which the server listens against the Proxy Host and Proxy Port parameters. By default, these parameters are set to none, indicating that the eG agent is not configured to communicate via a proxy, by default. |
Proxy Username, Proxy Password and Confirm Password |
If the proxy server requires authentication, then, specify a valid proxy user name and password in the Proxy Username and Proxy Password parameters, respectively. Then, confirm the password by retyping it in the Confirm Password text box. |
Share To User |
Specify the email ID of a Google Workspace user who have access to the test operations created during monitoring. This can be the email ID of the simulation user or admin. By default, this parameter is set to none. Providing the email ID helps the specified user view and verify synthetic monitoring activities. |
Enable Debug |
If this flag is set to Yes, the eG agent will run in debug mode, enabling error logging. By default, this flag is set to No. |
DD Frequency |
Refers to the frequency with which detailed diagnosis measures are to be generated for this test. The default is 1:1. This indicates that, by default, detailed measures will be generated every time this test runs, and also every time the test detects a problem. You can modify this frequency, if you so desire. Also, if you intend to disable the detailed diagnosis capability for this test, you can do so by specifying none against DD frequency. |

Measurement |
Description |
Measurement Unit |
Interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Folder creation status |
Indicates whether/not the folder was succesfully created in Google Drive. |
If this measure reports the value Success, it means that the folder was successfully created. On the other hand, if this measure reports the value Failed, it implies that the folder creation failed. The numeric values that correspond to these measure values are as follows:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the folder creation status. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only. The folder creation failures can be due to slow internet connection, sync issues, storage constraints, browser issues, server outages, etc. |
Folder creation time |
Indicates the time taken to create the folder in Google Drive. |
Seconds |
A low value is desired for this measure. A high value is a cause for concern that can impact the overall efficiency. |
Folder search status |
Indicates whether/not folder search was succesful in Google Drive. |
If this measure reports the value Success, it means that the folder search was succesful. On the other hand, if this measure reports the value Failed, it implies that the folder search failed. The numeric values that correspond to these measure values are as follows:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the folder search status. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only. If the folder search fails, then users may struggle to locate important files which can cause inefficiencies and decreased productivity. The reasons behind this failure could be technical issues, syncing problems, internet cnnectivity issues or user errors. |
Folder search time |
Indicates the time taken to search a folder in Google Drive. |
Seconds |
If the value of this measure is high, then it can lead to delays in accessing files. This could be due to slow internet connection, browser cache issuees, syncing delays, or service outages. |
Folder deletion status |
Indicates whether/not folder deletion was succesful in Google Drive. |
If this measure reports the value Success, it means that the folder was successfully created. On the other hand, if this measure reports the value Failed, it implies that the folder deletion failed. The numeric values that correspond to these measure values are as follows:
Note: By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the folder deletion status. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only. |
Folder deletion time |
Indicates the time taken to delete a folder in Google Drive. |
Seconds |
This measure should report a low value. If folder deletion is taking too long, it is a cause for concern that can eventually lead to workflow inefficiencies, storage issues and bitter user experience. |
