HPE StoreOnce VTL Services Test

The HPE StoreOnce Backup system is a disk-based storage appliance for backing up host network servers or PCs to target devices on the appliance. These devices are configured as either Network-Attached Storage (NAS), Virtual Tape Library (VTL), or StoreOnce Catalyst stores for backup applications. VTL targets appear to the backup application as physically connected tape devices, with backup and recovery jobs managed in the same manner as with a physical tape device. These Virtual Tape Libraries enable administrators to more efficiently manage resources. Virtual Tape Libraries are recommended for customers in fiber channel environments or where a continued investment in tape hardware and software is a key consideration. If the Virtual Tape Library suddenly becomes unavailable or stops abruptly, the data stored in it may become inaccessible to the users. To ensure continuous availability of data, it is essential to monitor the status of the VTL services in the target HPE StoreOnce Backup appliance. The HPE StoreOnce VTL Services test helps administrators in this regard!

This test monitors the VTL service on the target HPE StoreOnce Backup appliance and reports the current status, health, replication health, and replication status. Besides, this test also reports the maximum and remaining number of drives and libraries that can be created on the VTL service. Using this test, administrators can figure out the remaining count of drives and libraries and identify the remaining size of the drive pool. This in turn helps in resource and workload optimization.

Target of the test : HPE StoreOnce Backup 4.x

Agent deploying the test : A remote agent

Outputs of the test : One set of results for the HPE StoreOnce Backup 4.x appliance being monitored.

Configurable parameters for the test
Parameters Description

Test Period

How often should the test be executed.

Host

The host for which the test is to be configured.

Port

The port at which the host is listening. By default, this is set to Null.

Username and Password

By default, the eG agent executes REST APIs on the target HPE StoreOnce Backup 4.x appliance to collect the required metrics. For the eG agent to execute the REST APIs, a special user with an Observer role is required. Specify the credentials of such a user in the Username and Password text boxes.

Confirm Password

Confirm the password by retyping it here.

Timeout Seconds

Specify the duration (in seconds) beyond which the test will timeout in this text box. The default value is 120 seconds.

Measurements made by the test
Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation

VTL status

Indicates the current status of the VTL service on the target appliance.

The values that this measure can report and their corresponding numeric values are tabulated below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Online 1
Running 2
Unknown 4

Note:

By default, this measure reports the above-mentioned Measure Values that indicate the current status of the VTL service. However, the graph of this measure will be represented using the corresponding numeric equivalents of the measure values as mentioned in the table above.

Health level

Indicates overall health of the VTL service on the target appliance.

The values that this measure can report and the states they indicate are tabulated below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Unknown 0
OK 1
Information 2
Warning 3
Critical 4

Note:

By default, this measure reports the above-mentioned Measure Values that indicate the overall health of the VTL service. However, the graph of this measure will be represented using the corresponding numeric equivalents of the measure values as mentioned in the table above.

Replication health

Indicates the current replication health of the VTL service on the target appliance.

The values that this measure can report and the states they indicate are tabulated below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Unknown 0
OK 1
Information 2
Warning 3
Critical 4

Note:

By default, this measure reports the above-mentioned Measure Values that indicate the current replication health of the VTL service. However, the graph of this measure will be represented using the corresponding numeric equivalents of the measure values as mentioned in the table above.

Replication status

Indicates the current replication status of the VTL service on the target appliance.

The values that this measure can report and the states they indicate are tabulated below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Online 1
Running 2
Non-Replicating 3
Unknown 4

Note:

By default, this measure reports the above-mentioned Measure Values that indicate the current replication status of the VTL service. However, the graph of this measure will be represented using the corresponding numeric equivalents of the measure values as mentioned in the table above.

Maximum drives

Indicates the maximum number of drives that can be created on the VTL service.

Number

Remaining drives

Indicates the remaining number of new drives that can be created on the VTL service.

Number

This measure denotes remaining size of the drive pool. The drive pool is the total number of drives which can be configured across the service set.

Maximum libraries

Indicates the maximum number of libraries that can be created on the VTL service.

Number

Remaining libraries

Indicates the remaining number of libraries that can be created on the VTL service.
