Monitoring Hitachi Content Platform

eG Enterprise embeds a specialized Hitachi Content Platform monitoring model (see Figure 1) which enables users to run periodic status checks on the hardware components at the heart of the Hitachi Content Platform, and reports problems (if any) with those components. eG also monitors the Hitachi Content Platform services/systems and reports potential contentions if any.

Every layer in the monitoring model is mapped to variety of tests which connect to the SNMP MIB of the target component and report critical statistics pertaining to its performance. Using the measures reported by the tests administrators can find quick and accurate answers for the following queries:

  • Is the battery back up unit of Hitachi Content Platform healthy?
  • Is the License for the storage space nearing its expiry ?
  • Is the Hitachi Content Platform service in migration?
  • Has the Network Interface Card in the Node of the Hitachi Content Platform failed?
  • Has the node rebooted?
  • Is the amount of power flowing into and out of the Hitachi Content Platform optimal or abnormal?
  • Is the Hitachi Content Platform experiencing any erratic voltage fluctuations?
  • Is the link between Hitachi Content Platform systems suspended as part of replication process?
  • Does Hitachi Content Platform service contribute to the overall health and viability of the Hitachi Content Platform system?
  • Does Hitachi Content Platform shred deleted objects that are marked for shredding?
  • Has the storage pool of the target object storage server been sized adequately?
  • Are the Hitachi Content Platform system's volume capacities, replication services and objects status well maintained?
  • Were any erratic fluctuations observed in the temperature of Hitachi Content Platform?
  • Is the physical/logical size occupied by the tenants in Hitachi Content Platform excessive?
