Hosts Test
In OLVM Manager, hosts represent the physical Oracle Linux servers running the KVM hypervisor that provide compute and memory resources for virtual machines. These hosts are centrally managed by OLVM Manager, which monitors their availability and coordinates VM placement, scheduling, and migration across the virtualized environment. OLVM Manager continuously communicates with each host to track resource capacity, operational status, and virtual machine activity.
Hosts may face issues such as connectivity failures, CPU or memory exhaustion, insufficient free memory for scheduling new virtual machines, or excessive VM concentration. Such conditions can lead to VM startup failures, degraded application performance, failed migrations, or reduced service availability for end users. Continuous monitoring of host-level metrics helps administrators quickly identify these problems and assess their impact on workloads.
This test monitors each host manage by the target OLVM manager and reports the status, CPU and memory capacity, available memory for VM scheduling, and virtual machine counts. By providing timely visibility into host health and resource utilization, the test helps administrators take proactive corrective actions, balance workloads effectively, and ensure stable and reliable delivery of virtualized services.
Target of the Test: An OLVM Manager 4.x
Agent running the test: A remote agent
Output of the test: One set of results for each host managed by the monitored OLVM Manager.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
|
Test period |
How often should the test be executed. |
|
Host |
The host for which the test is to be configured. |
|
Port |
The port at which the specified host listens. The default port is 443. |
|
Management Server User, and Management Server Password |
To pull out the desired metrics from the OLVM Manager 4.x, this test has to be configured with the privileges of a user who has been assigned the UserRole. Specify the user name and password of this user in the Management Server User and Management Server Password text boxes, respectively. |
|
Confirm Password |
Confirm the Management Server Password by retyping it here. |
|
Management Server Domain |
Specify the domain to which the OLVM Manager belongs. By default, internal is displayed here. |
|
SSL |
If the OLVM Manager to which the eG agent should connect is SSL-enabled, then set this flag to Yes. If not, set it to No. |

|
Status |
Indicates the current operational state of this host. |
|
The values that this measure can report and their numeric equivalents have been detailed in the table below:
Note: By default, this measure reports one of the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the status of the host. The graph of this measure however will represent status using the numeric equivalents. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Physical CPU |
Indicates the total physical CPU capacity available on this host. |
MHz |
Lower-than-expected values may limit the host’s ability to run or schedule virtual machines efficiently. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Physical memory |
Indicates the total physical memory available on this host. |
MB |
This value helps assess the overall memory capacity available for hosting virtual machines. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Max free memory for scheduling new VMs |
Indicates the maximum amount of free memory currently available on this host for scheduling new virtual machines. |
MB |
A low value suggests memory pressure and may prevent additional VMs from being placed on this host. |

Total VMs |
Indicates the total number of virtual machines configured on this host. |
