Wifi Networks Test
This test auto-discovers the Wifi networks that are accessible to the target Windows server, and reports availability and signal strength of each Wifi network. This way, administrators can not only proactively identify the Wifi network that offers high signal strength but also can take actions before a user complains of unavailability of Wifi network, receiving weak Wifi signals and poor connection quality.
This test is disabled by default. To enable the test, go to the enable / disable tests page using the menu sequence : Agents -> Tests -> Enable/Disable, pick the desired Component type, set Performance as the Test type, choose the test from the DISABLED TESTS list, and click on the << button to move the test to the ENABLED TESTS list. Target of the test : A Windows server
Agent deploying the test : An external agent
Outputs of the test : One set of outputs for every Wifi network connected to the target Windows server being monitored.
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Test Period |
How often should the test be executed. |
Host |
The host for which the test is to be configured. |
Profile name |
By default, this parameter is set to all indicating that the eG agent will monitor all Wifi networks that have been listed and report metrics. Sometimes, you may want to monitor only a specific Wifi network or a set of Wifi networks of your interest. To achieve this, specify a particular Wifi network or a comma-separated list of Wifi networks in the profile name text box. |
Ignore unavailable profiles (hrs) |
Specify the duration (in hours) beyond which a Wifi network should be regarded as unavailable. The default value is 24. This means that one or more Wifi networks will be considered as unavailable if they are not discovered for more than 24 hours. |
Detailed Diagnosis |
To make diagnosis more efficient and accurate, the eG Enterprise embeds an optional detailed diagnostic capability. With this capability, the eG agents can be configured to run detailed, more elaborate tests as and when specific problems are detected. To enable the detailed diagnosis capability of this test for a particular server, choose the On option. To disable the capability, click on the Off option. The option to selectively enable/disable the detailed diagnosis capability will be available only if the following conditions are fulfilled:

Measurement | Description | Measurement Unit | Interpretation |
---|---|---|---|
Availability |
Indicates whether/not this Wifi network is available. |
Percent |
A value of 100 indicates that this Wifi network is available. The value 0 indicates that the Wifi network is not available. Use the detailed diagnosis of this measure to know the details of the Wifi network such as the physical address, Radio type, Description, Authentication, etc. |
Signal strength |
Indicates the percentage of signal strength of this Wifi network. |
Percent |
Ideally, a high value is desired for this measure. |
