For several years, eG Innovations has been providing advanced AIOps-powered monitoring and observability to customers leveraging IGEL-powered devices in VDI and DaaS environments. Our out-of-the-box metric thresholds, alerting, dashboards, and reporting ensure IT teams can proactively avoid end-user support calls and tickets and ensure organizations get optimal performance from their IGEL investment.

IGEL and eG Innovations recently announced the availability of eG Enterprise on the IGEL App Portal. eG Enterprise has been validated for use on IGEL OS-powered devices as part of the IGEL Ready partner program and is now available in the IGEL App Portal, learn more: eG Enterprise on the IGEL App Portal.

In today’s blog I will cover some details about the eG Enterprise integration with the IGEL OS platform and how eG Enterprise offers unsurpassed monitoring capabilities for IGEL technologies covering IGEL endpoints, UMS, Cloud Gateway and more.

What is IGEL OS?

IGEL OS is a transformative, secure endpoint OS designed for the SaaS, DaaS, VDI and secure browser world that is seamless to manage, saves money, fuels growth, and drives organizations forward.

IGEL OS simplifies the endpoint footprint reducing the need for additional software agents, extensive testing programs, and long update cycles. The results reduce endpoint CAPEX and OPEX by up to 75%, deliver more uptime, and better endpoint performance.

The IGEL Preventative Security Model provides unparalleled endpoint security reducing risk and providing the assurance leadership needs to focus on innovation and growth.

By enabling the use of energy efficient endpoint devices and removing the need for costly management and security agents, IGEL minimizes TCO, reduces management overhead, and enables a secure, cost-effective, and sustainable endpoint strategy for the enterprise.

eG Enterprise leverages universal agent technology which means that if you have both IGEL OS 11 and 12 devices in an environment, the same remote agent be used to monitor both sets of devices allowing you to monitor all your IGEL endpoints in a single console.

What is the IGEL App Portal?

The IGEL App Portal is a cloud service that delivers apps as part of the IGEL platform. You can learn more, here: New IGEL App Portal Cloud Service Delivers Fast, Efficient App Delivery via the New IGEL OS Platform | IGEL. IGEL Cloud Services and apps are currently stored in Azure Region West-Europe, Amsterdam.

The IGEL App Portal is available directly at: https://app.igel.com/.

What is IGEL UMS?

The IGEL IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) is a cloud-based solution that simplifies and reduces the cost of managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting IGEL OS endpoints. With IGEL UMS, IT organizations can:

  • Easily onboard, update, and offboard devices within minutes from a single console without IT involvement
  • Deploy configurations and patches through a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface and apply policies to modify appearance, connectivity, visibility, and security settings
  • Gain full management and control of mobile and remote devices that are “off-network” without a VPN connection

IGEL UMS also enables the configuration of non-standard interfaces and protocols on IGEL OS endpoints through Custom Partitions. This feature enables organizations to include connectivity and communication with clouds, networks, devices, and peripherals that are not currently supported in the latest IGEL OS release.

The UMS supports not only various operating systems but also databases and directory services such as Microsoft Active Directory.

IGEL UMS is typically used for:

  • Setting up devices automatically
  • Configuring devices, software clients, tools, and local protocols
  • Distributing updates
  • Diagnostics and support

Getting started

Deploying the eG VM Agent to your IGEL-powered devices is simple and can be done in a matter of minutes:

  • Access UMS web console and go to the IGEL App Portal
  • Import the eG VM Agent application from the App Portal
  • Assign the eG VM Agent application to IGEL device profiles in UMS
  • Configure the eG VM Agent application
  • Deploy to your devices
  • See user experience, device, and connection performance data in the eG Enterprise platform

What does IGEL Ready Certified mean?

When a product or solution is IGEL Ready Certified, it means that it has undergone rigorous testing and validation to ensure that it meets IGEL’s standards for performance, security, and reliability.

IGEL customers can be assured that IGEL Ready Certified apps published via the IGEL App Portal have been validated to use best practice engineering and supported interfaces and are securely architected.

This certification provides assurance to customers that the certified product or solution can be easily and securely deployed and managed within their IGEL-powered environments without compatibility issues or performance degradation.
